Lifelong Learning Adventure: The Birth of LinaXandria.
Exactly 40 years ago today, I graduated from school in Sweden. With $1,000 saved up, I flew to America for my first job on the same day. I had a scholarship from Northeastern University in Boston, allowing me to work for an American company for a year as an exchange student. It was also my 25th birthday, and I was ready for new adventures!
Excited to learn and explore, I arrived in Lynn, Massachusetts, barely speaking English. Thanks to the kind people I met, I found my way to General Electric. As a Mechanical Engineer from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, I was thrilled and surprised to have been selected to work in the Software department with Steam Turbine Development. How exciting!
I learned programming in FORTRAN, diving into the mysteries of coding. My curiosity had already led me to study everything from Algebra and Mechanical Engineering to Astrophysics, Naval Architecture, and Archeology. What more was there to learn? Little did I know that I had just begun.
During that year, I heard about AI for the first time. We were amazed and alarmed by its possibilities. Since then, I’ve watched technology advance, and in the last four years, we’ve all seen incredible breakthroughs in AI. I’m curious and concerned about what the next four years will bring. We all need to get curious and learn more about it.
My career has been a continuous learning experience, from building submarines and mining equipment to forklifts, lithography machines, and medical devices. The more I learned, the more I connected the dots and gained a broader perspective.
I embraced knowledge in marketing, finance, project management, and change management, contributing to every area impacting the company’s performance. I learned to manage engineering information better and work with people as part of the solution.
A year ago, one of my best friends, Johan Lange, a great teacher, passed away. From my sadness, the idea of LinaXandria took form, and I finally had the courage to start my own business. Johan’s passing reminded me how short the time is to capture knowledge from our human teachers. Will we rely on technology and forget where knowledge came from?
I started LinaXandria to help everyone curious about Engineering, Science, and Art. I aim to collect the best teachings from the best human teachers and save this knowledge for future generations.
With advancing technology, it’s easier to achieve my vision. With AI’s help, endless inspiration, and energy to keep learning and sharing, I’m thrilled to announce the opening of LinaXandria today, a virtual platform to sustain human knowledge for future generations. It is still in development and it will continue to improve as a home for the curious.
So, on this special day, 28 May 2025, exactly 40 years later, I am proud to announce the opening of the doors to LinaXandria. It has been a lot of preparation to get is started and it will continue to grow as I find more material.
I welcome everyone interested in Engineering, Science, and Art to LinaXandria. Teachers and students who want to save the knowledge and learn from each other, you’re especially welcome. It’s free and open to everyone for the benefit of future generations.
Hope to see you there, at LinaXandria! https://linaxandria.com
